Polar bears very close to becoming extinct!

Scientists are warning that the polar bears may join the Dodo and disappear from the wild in less than 70 years! That’s within our lifetime.
It is a very sad and sobering thought.
It’s all happening due to the Polar bear losing its habitat- the ice in the arctic is melting as the Earth continues to get warmer.

Happy 200th Birthday Charles Darwin!

Charles Darwin went on his voyages in HMS Beagle. Here is a model of the ship at the Natural History Museum in London..

Charles Darwin ( you may have heard about him) was born on 12th February 1809- that’s 200 years ago!
He shares his birthday with another very famous person, Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of America, best known for abolishing slavery.

Charles Darwin studied living things and looked at past at present evidence for the formation and evolution of Life on Earth. He put his theory forward in many controversial written works such as On The Origin of Species and The Descent of Man.

Natural History Museum ( Click here for more information)in London have an excellent exhibition on at present looking at Darwin’s work. He lived in Kent in a large house called Down House( Click here for more information) which has recently been opened up by the National English Heritage. You can visit both places and learn more about Darwin, the man, the scientist , the explorer and the philosopher.
