Test On Vertebrates and Invertebrates
You have a test on vertebrate and invertebrate animals on Thursday 11th December.
You should know:
animals with back bones are called vertebrates;
animals without backbones are called invertebrates;
there are five groups of vertebrates: mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians and birds.
each group has its own special characteristics;
we can use keys to help us identify and place the animals in different groups.
You can revise by CLICKING HERE to go to the BBC site.
Good Luck.
National Geographic Animals

This is a fabulous site for researching information about your chosen animals for your project. Remember to collect the information in the back of your books as your homework. Click HERE
You can also research your animals at the ANIMAL DIVERSITY site . Click here to visit it.
You can also visit ALL ABOUT ANIMALS to get details about 65 animals!

The project is due on Wednesday 10th December 2008. However I would like to see your information every week please! Thanks.
Animal Project
We are looking at how to CLASSIFY different animals into small groups. We have decided that all animals can be divided into TWO main groups:
Vertebrates ( animals with backbones) and
Invertebrates ( animals without backbones )
Homework tonight:
You now have to choose ONE VERTEBRATE and ONE INVERTEBRATE animal for your project. For tomorrow write the name of the vertebrate you have chosen on one page in the back of your science book. Write the name of the invertebrate you have chosen on the second page in the back of your science book. Begin collecting information on each animal.
Happy researching!

Work your way through the information all the way to the quiz. See if you can make the five stars light up!
Electricity
Today we looked at different ways in which power companies generate electricity. Some power stations use fossil fuels and some use nuclear fuel. These are NON RENEWABLE energy sources. Alternative energy sources are wind, wave, tidal, hydroelectric, geothermal and solar energy. These are RENEWABLE sources of energy. Which one do you think is the best?

Planning your Investigation
LO: Does the length of your stride depend upon the size of your leg?
Today we really enjoyed measuring the distance we walked in ten strides and then calculating the distance of one stride. We did this by dividing the total distance walked by 10.
We also measured the height of our leg, from the foot to where the leg joins the pelvis.
Homework Task for tomorrow:
You have to plan an investigation to see if there is a link between the size of your leg and the length of your stride.
This is explained in section 5 of the measuring sheet you have taken home.
You need to consider:
Which measurements to take?
How many measurements are needed?
How will you keep the investigation fair?
How will you make the investigation accurate?
You an also make a prediction in the comments or on your sheet as to what you think the answer will be!
Good Luck!
Farida Mannan
Skeleton Shakedown
I think you all know the skeleton pretty well now. See if you can put this poor thing back together again!
I hope you really enjoyed that. I dropped quite a few bones so I am glad that I am not a doctor!
See if you can remember the scientific names for all the bones. If you are going to be a doctor you will need them!
Good luck!
